Herbalism in Cosmetology, Aromatherapy and Yoga for Bioentrepreneurship

Plants are essential for human well-being, providing essential nutrients, oxygen, and materials for various needs. They contribute to physical health, mental well-being, and even play a role in reducing stress and improving workplace productivity. Plants play a significant role in the cosmetics industry, offering a wide range of ingredients for skincare and hair care products. These ingredients are often favoured for their natural origin and potential benefits. Studies explore how plants can positively impact different aspects of human life, from diet and medicine to the environment and even mental health.

OBJECTIVES

Herbal cosmetics are the products of the cosmetic chemistry, a science that combines the skill of experts from Botany and Chemistry. The consumers of these herbal products are more concerned with the texture, consistency, colour and odour, efficacy, safety and packaging of the cosmetic product. It is therefore necessary to have an understanding about the herbal raw materials and chemicals that go into a herbal cosmetic formulation. Certificate course in Herbal cosmetics is designed keeping in mind, the basic requirements of the cosmetic industry. It is a short term credit transfer, interdisciplinary course for the under graduate science students.

The primary objective of aromatherapy studies is to evaluate the therapeutic effects of essential oils on various physical, emotional, and mental health aspects. Phytotherapy study encompasses using plant-based medicines for health promotion and disease treatment, exploring how phytomedicine prevents or manages diseases, and understanding the role of phytochemicals in slowing or preventing disease-related damage.

The main objectives of including plants in a yoga study or practice are to enhance the overall experience by improving air quality, reducing stress, and potentially boosting immunity. Plants can also add to the aesthetics of the space and create a more natural and soothing environment for yoga practice. Green exercise studies are to investigate the positive impacts of physical activity in natural settings on both physical and mental health. These studies aim to understand how green exercise can improve mood, reduce stress and anxiety, enhance self-esteem, and potentially even lower blood pressure and heart rate.
