INTRODUCTION

“JNAN JETHA MUKTO”….WHERE KNOWLEDGE IS FREE…this phrase which also underlies the vision of Asutosh College, is not merely a string of words, it runs in the veins of the landmark college of Kolkata since its inception in 1916. For a period spanning more than a century the college has relentlessly educated, hand held, guided, mentored innumerable number of batches in more than 28 disciplines in the domain of science, humanities, social sciences. In this journey the college has prioritized knowledge dissemination irrespective of caste, creed, social, economic status, physical health.

The college in tandem with the verses from Rabindranath Tagore’s poem, has ensured to sculpt citizens whose”mind is without fear’ and akin to honesty whose ‘head is held high’ with righteousness. The knowledge imparted in this institution is ‘free’ from all blockades and prejudices and now it has envisioned to step forward to launch online skill enhancement courses for teachers, non-teaching staff as well as students on a continuous basis.without charging any financial consideration.

CONCEPT AND SCOPE:

The online skill enhancement courses of Asutosh College are a format of knowledge dissemination where diverse online professional development, administrative development, and skill enhancement courses shall be available for participants to fuel their understanding on various areas of work. . They will be designed to provide flexible and accessible learning opportunities, free of charge through web based platform. The courses are planned to run for duration of 36 hours or 30 hours depending on the curriculum and would be run through online platforms. They can add value to their existing knowledge or gain new knowledge through the courses and further use it to upgrade their existing area of skill.

OBJECTIVES OF SKILL ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMMES by Asutosh college:

To provide opportunities of developing knowledge in respective field of work
To increase college’s contribution towards growth of employees and students.
To foster innovation in teaching learning methodologies
To develop a catalogue of high quality courses gradually
To establish a system to address learners’ queries effectively

EXPECTED OUTCOMES:

Through effective implementation of the courses the college expects to achieve the following outcomes:

Accommodate a large number of students and staff through use of online methods of knowledge dissemination
Participation of learners after their work hours without disturbing regular activities at work
Gradually build up courses on diverse topics in different disciplines
Provide certification to the learners which they can use for their career progression
