Computer (IT) Cell
INTRODUCTION
The IT Cell of Asutosh College was established in 2009 as an extension of Computer Science Department. From 2009, when the College initiated the process of online application and admission, the IT Cell was given the responsibility to manage this process. Besides the students’ admission for the undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses via online, the IT Cell develops and manages the Online Library System. Presently located on the ground floor of Asutosh College Humanities Block, the IT Cell plays a crucial role to make various online activities hassle-free.
The Cell updates the content for the College website from time to time, based on the instructions of the Principal/Vice-Principal/College Officials. It manages other related activities such as achievements of the institute/students, alumni network, media, and so on. The Cell also manages the online examination notifications, and communicates by responding numerous queries from the students.
THE BEGINNING
The IT Cell started its function under the supervision of Sri Gautam Mahapatra, Associate Professor in Computer Science, from 2009 to 2015 along with the assistance of Sri Suman Chongder, IT Associate and Smt. Amrita Dutta, IT Associate. From 2016, the IT Cell started working independently under the leadership of Sri Suman Chongder, IT Associate and Smt. Amrita Dutta, IT Associate.
OBJECTIVES
- To manage the online application and admission process for the students.
- To make online system hassle-free and convenient to follow.
- To update the content for the College website.
- To schedule various notifications on the College website for the convenience of the students and the staff.
- To continuously respond to the queries from the students.

Five counters are maintained to help students with admission-related queries or any other college related work, i.e., online admission form issue, College I.D. card issue, roll number issue, etc.

WEBSITE MAINTENANCE
The Asutosh College website www.asutoshcollege.in (2010) and college On-Line Library catalogue, www.accskol.in (2013) had been developed and are maintained by the IT Cell.
ON-LINE UNDER GRADUATE ADMISSION
Using the Asutosh College online admission system applicants can apply for B.A/B.SC/B.Voc (Honours and General/ Major) Degree Courses and get auto-generated application forms and application fees challan with unique Application ID.
The IT Cell then creates a consolidated merit list for all departments category-wise using different merit list formulae as finalised by the Admission Committee.
Applicants whose name appears in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd merit lists are eligible for direct admission in Asutosh College, for which they get admission form with bank challan from our college website. After verification of admission forms and paying fees to the appointed bank using bank challan, applicants get college roll number and unique 12 digits Student ID from our online admission system which automatically stores student data in Student Management System for future reference/use.
IDENTITY CARD PREPARATION FOR STUDENTS
For preparation of student ID card the IT cell uploads student's photo and signature in web server and prints ID card using student data which is stored in Student Management System.
Unique Student ID which is generated in the 1st year admission time is same for 2nd and 3rd year also. Using this ID 2nd and 3rd year students can get Admission form with bank challan for admission in this college and generate new roll no and ID card.
ON-LINE POST GRADUATE ADMISSION
The Postgraduate online admission system is similar to the UG level following the same process for admission. However, the admission takes place after publication of admission test results or merit list and reporting.
STUDENT DATA MANAGEMENT
The IT Unit also maintains student database and generates reports like:- Student Record department and year-wise.
- Total no. of students- category, gender, department and year-wise.
- Student Register report for Honours and General courses subject-wise for each year.
- Fees collection report bank-wise every month.
- Fees collection report for each student at the end of every session.
ON-LINE LIBRARY SYSTEM
On-Line Library System started in the year 2013. The Library Accession Register system was converted to Library Database System. All library books records are stored in the online library system and every year students get library cards using Unique Student ID. All books issue and return processes are done by this online system and all the records are stored in digital format. Using this library database, reports are generated as and when required:
- Departmental/ seminar library-wise book catalogue.
- All names of students who collects library cards.
- Book transaction report.
- Student’s current transaction status.
ON-LINE SEMESTER EXAMINATION
On-Line Semester Examination under University of Calcutta started in the year July, 2020 under the IT Cell in our College.
