- Types of Data – Qualitative, Quantitative, Cross-Section, Time Series, Pooled, Panel
- Attributes and variables
- Primary and Secondary data
- Relevance of field survey data for purpose of analysis
Unit 2: Collection of Data (20 hours)
- Complete enumeration and sample survey
- Idea of Sampling – Concept of Simple random Sampling
- Requisites for field survey – Blank table and idea of questionnaire
- Preparation of questionnaire depending on the nature of survey
Unit 3: Recording Data (10 hours)
- Different methods to record data(using MS Excel)
- Organisation of data
- Documentation of survey results
Unit 4: Representation of Data (25 hours)
- Tabular Representation of Data
- Graphical Representation of Data – line diagram, bar chart, divided bar chart, pie chart, etc. (using MS Excel)
- Frequency distribution table
- Graphical Representations of frequency table –frequency polygon, histogram, ogive, etc(using MS Excel)
Unit 5: Basic Descriptive Statistics (25 hours)
- Measures of Central Tendency – Concepts of mean, median, mode and their uses in analysing economic data
- Comparison of mean, median and mode
- Measures of dispersion
- Basic concepts of regression analysis and correlation
