Course Syllabus
Module 1: Introduction to Psychology :
24periods. (2hours per week)
Unit 1: Introduction to psychology. Perspective of different schools. Different scopes and branches and methods. Brief concept of biological bases of behaviour and methods of psychology.
Unit 2:Concept of mental health and well-being.
Unit 3: Introduction to social psychology and its role in everyday life.
Unit 4: Health in everyday life.
Unit 5: Short introduction to community psychology.
Module 2: Stress, community issues, family, and elderly people
Unit 1: Stress - concept, sources, management.
Unit 2: Community based intervention for elderly people - their role in the family, mental health for elderly people, role of psychologists in addressing the issues of elderly people, positive aging, latest legislative measures in India, Senior citizen act (MWPSE) 2007.
Unit 3: Family - concept, types, parenting styles.
Unit 4: Community issues - child marriage, child labour, domestic violence, sexual abuse, cyber bullying, suicide
Unit 5: Legislations pertaining to community issues - POCSO, RPWD act, Mental Health Act, National Trust Act - and the role of mental health professionals in this regard
Module 3: Counselling and its understanding.
Unit1: Concept, types, and process of counselling.
Unit 2: Introduction, concepts, and relation among interest, aptitude, and ability, pocess of vocational/career counselling, distinction between vocational/career counselling and vocational/career guidance.
Unit 3: Counselling for family and marriage: Premarital counselling, marriage counselling, counselling for parents.
Unit 4: Grief counselling
Unit 5: Special Areas in Counselling: introduction, counselling for- women empowerment

Module 4: Positivity and Life Style Management
Unit 1: Life Style
How lifestyle affects one’s quality of life
Food :not only how much, but to also answer the important questions of what to eat, when
to eat, and how to eat
Drink: What and how much
Sleep: when and where → How much is too much?
Physical relation: Touch → How important is it? It is important to know yourself.
Unit 2: Breathing
Why Pranayama is important
How it affects the heart
How it affects our blood flow
What is Deep Breathing?
What is a belly breather?
What are the 4 types of breathing?
Unit 3: Music as therapy
Basic concept and relation between Brain Waves and Music
- Breathing and Heart Rate
- State of Mind and Music
- Music and its benefits
- Music Therapy, relation between music and state of wellbeing
Unit 4: Colour Therapy
Brief introduction and its Techniques
Relation between mental wellbeing and colour
Unit 5: Positivity and Spirituality
Concept and relation with positive self
Silence, bliss, gratitude, forgiveness, wisdom, Transcendence and Spirituality
