Statistics [50 hours]
- Collection and Presentation of Data:
i. Types of Statistical Data - quantitative and qualitative, cross-sectional and time-series, discrete and continuous.
ii. Tabulation and diagrammatic representation of data – Bar diagram, pie diagram, line diagram.
iii. Frequency distribution, Cumulative frequency distribution and their graphical representation – Column diagram, Histogram, Step diagram, Ogive.
- Descriptive Analysis of Univariate Data:
i. Measures of Central Tendency – Mean, Median, Mode.
ii. Measures of Dispersion – Range, Mean Deviation, Standard Deviation, Quartile Deviation, Coefficient of Variation.
- Descriptive Analysis and Presentation of Bivariate Data:
i. Scatter Diagram.
ii. Simple Correlation and Regression.
iii. Rank Correlation.
- Basics of Probability:
i. Counting Techniques, Permutations and Combinations.
ii. Sets and Venn diagrams.
iii. Sample Space, Events, Classical, Relative Frequency and Axiomatic Definitions of Probability.
iv. Basic theorems of Probability and Simple Examples based on Theorems.
v. Conditional Probability and Independence of Events.
- Statistics using Spreadsheet:
i. Introduction to Spreadsheet.
ii. Presentation of Quantitative Data – Creating easy to understand charts.
iii. Analysis of quantitative data – Use of some statistical and mathematical functions.
