According to the World Health Organization (WHO), direct contact with toxic materials like lead , cadmium, or polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) that leach from e-waste may result in serious health hazards. Inhalation of the toxic fumes, as well as accumulation of chemicals in soil, water, and food are also responsible for environmental or human health hazards.

The e-waste management committee was formed to monitor the management of electronic waste i.e., discarded or rejected electronic or electrical device of Asutosh College. Moreover, the Committee is established with the purpose to generate awareness for the importance of management of e-waste by the means of organising seminars or webinars. The committee further looks after to keep records and data in order to maintain e-waste effectively and efficiently.

Objectives

  1. To monitor the management of various e-wastes that are generated from different departments as well as different buildings of Asutosh College.
  2. To minimise generation of e-waste, prevent and control e-waste and provide guidelines for e-waste management.
  3. To emphasise reduction, reutilisation & recycling of e-waste for better management of.
  4. To handle & treat e-waste in a safe & sustainable manner for better management of human and environmental health.
