The constitution of Staff Welfare Committee is an age-old concept and is in practice at Asutosh College since past few decades. The present functional committee is active since 2017 till date. Asutosh College believes that the welfare of employees are efforts that are made to make life worth living for employees. It's a term that includes the benefits, services and facilities that are offered by employers to their employees for the purpose of providing comfort and improving their quality-of-service lives. In most cases, employee welfare comes in monetary form, but here it doesn't always bend that way. Several other forms of employee welfare which our college caters to its family includes financial support in distress, health facilities and insurance, incentives, support via various forms of counselling, etc. The welfare committee reviews and recommends from time to time, welfare measures to the college authority. In this way Asutosh College is successful in bringing an overall improvement of the working conditions. Employee welfare here is in the interest of employee, employer and the society as a whole. It enables workers to perform their work in healthy and favorable environment. So far, we have worked on the following issues and they are in constant practice:

  1. Employees Provident Fund, for college paid staff, is constantly taken care of
  2. Employees State Insurance, to extend health and treatment facilities, has been made functional for the college paid staff
  3. The West Bengal Government Health Scheme for the Teaching Staff has been made facilitated.
  4. Monthly Blood Pressure check-up is mandatory keeping in mind the stress level that the staffs deal with
  5. The Staff Welfare Committee is always in touch with the Teachers Council and the Non-Teaching Staff Council to discuss on the possible furtherance of the welfare measures.
  6. A very efficient staff-cooperative system exists which enables staff members to get financial helps in the form of loans with minimum interest within a short span in any kind of emergency

Proposals for the coming days:

  1. Along with blood pressure monitoring, routine pulmonary check-up camps will be organized by the committee with the help of experienced medical professionals in order to scrutinize the post-COVID respiratory situation of the employees.
  2. Keeping in mind the health adversity and societal needs, the committee plans to organize a One-Day Blood Donation Camp benefiting both staffs and society as and when needed.
  3. Since our profession deals with stressful situations at times, the committee has plans to organize counselling sessions which will be done with the assistance of by our very active Psychology Department.
