Activities

It was decided to set up at the Asutosh Corner in the Central Library to pay appropriate homage to our visionary Founder on his 150th Birth Anniversary. Consequently, all publications connected with Sir Asutosh that were available in the market were collected and arranged in a stand-alone showcase in the Central Library. The collection contains the followings:

VALEDICTORY FUNCTION ON THE OCCASION OF SIR ASUTOSH MOOKERJEES 125TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY ASUTOSH MOOKERJEES MEMORIAL INSTITUTE

As a befitting follow-up to the Centenary celebrations of the institution, the committee, resolved to create an archival section in the Visitors' Room adjacent to the Principal's Room. The archive houses mementoes and publications marking the various milestones in the hundred years journey of the college, including the following:

  • Copies of the Prospectus published annually, including special commemorative issues.
  • Magazines of the Students' Union, published annually, and containing articles/ poems/ stories by writers who subsequently gained renown, literary or otherwise.
  • All college publications published under the aegis of the Publication Cell: �“Asutosh: Vidyar Sarathi”.
  • “The Centennial” (College Centenary Commemoration Volume).
  • “The Centurion” (Teachers' Council journal)
  • Albums containing photographs of events like College Foundation Day celebrations, Silver, Golden, and Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Sesquicentennial Birth Anniversary celebrations of Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Acharya Prafulla Ch. Ray, Sir Asutosh, Calcutta University Centenary as celebrated in the college, Foundation -stone laying ceremony of the Second Campus, Annual College Sports, Staff Cricket Match, Annual Prize Distribution ceremony, inauguration and degree awarding ceremony of the various PG. departments, inauguration of the Centenary Building by the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, and conferences/ seminars/ workshops organized by the various departments of the college.
  • The Centenary DVD released by the Governor of West Bengal, Shri K. N. Tripathi, and other CDs containing records of other important college events.
  • Departmental publications like “Politicus” (Political Science), “Scan” (Geology), “Communique” (Communicative English), and “Myna” (Zoology).
  • Silver, Golden, and Platinum Jubilee souvenirs.
  • Issues of DELF, a journal comprising research-oriented articles by faculty members, and published with Ford Foundation (USA) grants.
  • A few copies of “Bhalolaga Kobita”, an anthology of poems by students and members of the teaching and nonteaching staff of the college.
  • Newspaper clippings of interviews of some notable alumni.
  • Departmental souvenirs.
  • Masterplan of the Bhasa campus.

The Exhibition Cell of Asutosh College became active on the eve of the sesquicentennial birthday celebrations of Sir Asutosh Mukherjee, our Founder President. The Cell left no stone unturned to gather specific and all related information about the great visionary, collecting photographs of relevant records, events and people. The exhibition entitled ‘...and the Journey goes on' was unveiled on 29 June, 2013, by Dr. Suranjan Das, the then Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University in the library hall. The exhibits are currently displayed on the various floors of the Centenary Building.
