MODULE 1 (BASIC COMPUTER COURSE)

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER:        (5 Hours)

  • History, Characteristics, Basic Applications.
  • Concept of Hardware and Software.
  • Applications of IECT, e-governance, Multimedia and Entertainment.

INTRODUCTION TO GUI BASED OS: (5 Hours)

  • Introduction
  • Objectives.
  • Basics of popular OS(LINUX , WINDOWS).
  • The user interface (Task Bar, Icons, start Menu, Running an Application) .
  • OS Simple Setting (changing system date and time, changing Display properties, toadd / Remove a windows component, changing mouse properties etc.).
  • Files and directory Management.
  • Types of files.

MS –WORD: (8 Hours)

  • Introduction.
  • Objectives.
  • Word Processing Basic.
  • Opening and Closing docs (opening documents, save, save as, page setup, selecting text, editing text, find & replace).
  • Text Creation and Manipulation.
  • Formatting the text (Paragraph Indenting, bullets and Numbering, changing case) .
  • Table Manipulation (draw table, changing cell width and height, Alignment of text in a cell, delete/ insertion of  rows & column ,border and shading).
  • Proofing Tools (checking and correcting spellings, handling graphics , document).

MS – EXCEL : (8 Hours)

  • Concepts.
  • Elements Of Excel ( opening of spreadsheet, addressing of   Cells, printing of spread sheets, saving workbooks).
  • Manipulation of cells (Inserting, deleting worksheets, entering data in a cell / formula coping and moving from selected cells, handling operators in  Formulas, functions, basic mathematical functions).
  • Formatting    a    Worksheet:    Formatting    cells-(changing    data   alignment,    changing date,number, character of currency format changing font, adding borders/colors).
  • Charts & Graphs: creating, previewing & modifying charts.

MS- POWER POINT: (8 Hours)

  • Basics :
    • Opening and saving presentation.
    • Adding and formatting slides.
    • Designing Slide Shows.
    • Running and controlling a slide show.
    • Printing presentations.

DATABASE OPERATION: (6 Hours)

  • Data Manipulation (concept: database relational database, integrity. Operations : Creating, dropping, manipulating).
  • Table Structure: manipulation of data: (query, data entry, form, reports).

MODULE 2 (INTERNET TECHNOLOGY AND WEB DESIGN)

INTRODUCTION TO INTERNET: (2 Hours)

  • Internet, Growth of Internet, Owners of the internet, Anatomy of the Internet, ARPA net and Internet history of the world wide web, basic internet terminologies, Netiquette.
  • Internet applications- Commerce on the internet, Impact of the Internet on the society- Crime through the Internet.

TCP/IP – INTERNET TECHNOLOGY AND PROTOCOL:( 5 Hours)

  • Packet switching technology.
  • Internet Protocols: TCP/IP, Router.
  • Internet addressing scheme: Machine addressing scheme, e-mail addresses, resource addresses.

INTERNET CONNECTIVITY: (5 Hours)

  • Connectivity types: level one, level two and level three connectivity.
  • Setting up a connection: hardware requirement, selection of a modem, software requirement, modem configuration internet accounts by ISP: telephone line options – dialup connections through the telephone system ,dedicated connections through the telephone system , ISDN.
  • Protocol options- shell, SLIP, PPP.
  • Service options – E-mail, WWW, news firewall etc.

INTERNET NETWORK : (5 Hours)

  • Network definition.
  • Common     terminologies:     LAN,    WAN,    Node.    Host,    workstation,    bandwidth, interoperability, Network administrator Network, security.
  • Network Components: servers, clients communication media.
  • Types of network :peer to peer, clients server.
  • Addressing in internet: DNS, domain name and their organization, understanding the internet protocol address.
  • Network topologies: bust, star and ring, Ethernet FDDI, ATM and internet.

SERVICES ON INTERNET (DEFINITION AND FUNCTIONS): (4 Hours)

  • E-mail, WWW, Telnet, FTP, IRC and search engine.

ELECTRONIC MAIL:( 8 Hours)

  • Email networks and server.
  • Email protocols- SMTP, POP3, IMAp4 , MIME6.
  • Structure of an Email – Email address, Email header, body and attachments.
  • Email clients: Netscape mail Clients , outlook express , Web based E-mail.
  • E-mail encryption –address book, signature file.

WEB PUBLISHING AND BROWSING:  (10 Hours)

  • Overview.

  • Documents interchange standards.
  • Components of Web publishing, document management, Web page design consideration and principles.
  • Search and meta search engines, WWW, browser, HTTP, publishing tools.

BASICS OF HTML: (12 Hours)

  • HTML page structure.
  • HTML text.
  • HTML links.
  • HTML document tables.
  • HTML frames.
  • HTML images.
  • Multimedia.

INTERNET SECURITY MANAGEMENT CONCEPTS,                  INFORMATION PRIVACY AND COPY RIGHT ISSUES : ( 5 Hours)

  • Overview of Internet security.
  • Firewalls.
  • Internet security.
  • Management concepts and information privacy and copyright Issues.
  • Basics of asymmetric cryptosystems.
