Activities

The inaugural project was the publication of “Asutosh: Vidyar Sarathi”, a collection of essays and articles on the life and times of Sir Asutosh Mukherjee by well-known academicians as well as staff and students of the College. A rich storehouse of information, the volume was curated jointly by members of the Publication Division and Dr. Reena Bhaduri, Secretary, Asutosh Mukherjee Memorial Institute.

The Committee held several meetings to plan and execute the project. A professional copy editor was engaged to help with the proof-reading of articles, and the page layout and cover were designed by Dr. Binayak Misra and executed by Magic Ideas. The production in terms of printing and binding were undertaken by M. Samu Messrs. Patralekha were given the charge of distribution.

The Volume was released on 29 June, 2014 at the closing ceremony of the 150th Birth Anniversary celebration of Sir Asutosh by Sri Chittatosh Mukherjee, former Chief justice of Bombay High Court, and grandson of Sir Asutosh.

The second project undertaken by the Publication Cell has been the Publication of “The Centennial” to commemorate the College Centenary completed on 17 July, 2016. “The Centennial” is a compendium of articles detailing the history of the college, including its curricular and co-curricular activities and achievement, reprints of selected articles and pictures from college magazines and souvenirs of bygone years reminiscences of celebrated alumni, and the record of activities undertaken in the Centennial Year, departmental profiles and an exhaustive list of all members of staff, teaching and non-teaching, of the college from its inception till date. The printing and production was done by Fine Dots.

The Commemoration Volume was unveiled by the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Sri Kesharinath Tripathi, at the concluding ceremony of the college centennial celebrations at Nazrul Mancha, on 17 July, 2016.

  • The Cell also collaborated in the publication of “The Centurion”, the journal initiated by the Asutosh College Teachers’ Council in the year of the college centenary.
  • The Publication Cell additionally helps to coordinate the publication of the college prospectus. In the last few years, there have been special issues of the prospectus to commemorate special occasions, like
    • 150th Birth Anniversary of Sir Asutosh Mukherjee in 2013;
    • College Centenary in 2015 and 2016.

Members of the Publication Cell regularly meet and interact, both informally and in formal meetings which are chaired by the Principal to discuss upcoming projects.
